Being a content creator at Yarno isn’t quite like any content writing role you’ve had before.
There are a few reasons why we believe that’s so. I mean, of course most content writing roles involve research, synthesising ideas and communicating them — but to be frank, we’ve taken it to another level.
Our customers are why we come to work every day*, why we build our products to be awesome and why we’re committed to making working with us easy, friendly, and rewarding for every customer and learner.
*(The truth is we don’t actually come to work — we're a mostly-remote company. But you get what I mean, right?)
Every company says it, but Yarno’s a pretty great place to work. Our team is on the constant pursuit of learning, growth and self-development. We push each other to take on new challenges, we give each other feedback courageously and constructively, and we simply just enjoy each other’s company.
Yarno’s a learning company in the business of behaviour change. We want to create this change to help people become more capable and confident in their roles at work.
And how do we do that?
With a web app, of course! Yarno, as a platform, is mobile-based learning software for the modern worker — people that don’t have the time for days-long seminars, or to click through boring desktop elearning modules and powerpoint decks. People who want learning that fits into their schedule as a simple, enjoyable and valuable part of their day, in the form of a concise, 5-minute daily quiz.
Ah-ha! That's where you're wrong! Yarno isn’t just an app. We have a deep conviction for actually achieving results, making a dent, having an impact — for improving life, and the world. And just as a hammer by itself does not build a house, a quizzing tool alone does not empower anyone with its bells and whistles.
That's why we provide full learning consultancy for our customers, diving deep to understand the behaviours behind their challenges, and then developing content and strategy that encourages meaningful change and embeds quality knowledge.
The detail mentioned above — the unassuming 5-minute a day quiz — is the shiny golden fruit of a Content Creator’s work.
Yes, a quiz. I can hear you now thinking: ”A multiple choice quiz can’t be that creative. These people are nuts.”
Well, we are nuts. But it’s true! When skillfully applied, the humble multiple choice quiz can embed knowledge and even help change behaviours. Our customers can vouch for that. But you’re not going to be attached to your computer all day every day, because that unassuming quiz is the result of a deep collaboration. And collaboration requires actually talking to real live people.
Content Creators are the first impression we make on customers after a deal is signed. They co-facilitate the kick-off workshops with the customer’s top brass, and then drive the weekly content WIPs with the subject matter experts.
So in addition to being smooth with the keyboard, Content Creators have got to be articulate, charismatic and cool with being the centre of attention in a group of people.
That’s what our Content Creators do; they get customers excited to collaborate, dive deep on their problems, and then take information on a wide variety of topics (whether from a customer or researched independently) and work together to distil it down into short, bite-sized quizzes and explanations.
And we’re not exaggerating when we say there’s diversity of topics. In the last year, our team’s written content on…
The short answer:
Someone who wants to spend the majority of their week with us! But most importantly, someone who creates beautiful content.
The longer answer:
Someone who is personable, friendly, enthusiastic and approachable. A person who can grow with Yarno as we further build our presence and supercharge our impact on our customers and their people.
We hear so often from our customers that what they love most about working with us is how refreshing, and how easy it is to work with a group of people who are genuine, reliable, and want nothing but to see positive change in their businesses — and that we don’t take ourselves too seriously!
There’s also a big Instructional Design component to this role. But you may have noticed that we’re hiring for a “content creator” and NOT an “instructional designer”, so what gives? Well, we’ve found that it’s a lot easier to teach someone instructional design than it is to teach them to be a clever writer. But whoever lands this role definitely has to be up for a fairly deep dive into the principles of contemporary instructional design. While we will arm you with the resources you need, you must be a willing hero on this quest.
We also require you to like any or all of the following:
(Well, it’s not a strict requirement, but it is looked upon favourably)
We’re looking for a person who is:
*Please note that, being an internet-based remote working company, a robust, reliable home internet connection is required for this role.
Content Creators are one part of our customer team — the other part is made up of our trusty Customer Success Managers. Each Yarno customer has a Customer Success-Content duo that work together to deliver on-point content and on-time campaigns.
We're looking for people who are experienced, skilled communicators. If you’ve got some experience in content writing (marketing or otherwise) — or just have a knack for research, distilling information and writing about it — it’s certainly a big advantage in this role.
While Yarno began as a written medium, more and more, we're incorporating visual / graphic and video communication — selecting whatever medium best suits achieving clear understanding of the message by the learner. To that end, we're ideally looking for someone skilled in multiple channels / mediums of communication.
Our Content Creators also use graphic design tools from time to time, so we’d be thrilled if you have a basic understanding of image editing software (think Photoshop and Pixelmator, or the occasional Sketch).
And if you’re a burgeoning filmmaker or Tik-Tok star, then we’re even extra thrilled, because video is a big part of our future.
Regardless of your communication specialty — verbal, written, graphic, video or decoupage — great written communication is a vital foundation.
Hopefully you're nodding as you read through these:
